Ehretia is a genus of flowering plants in the borage family, Boraginaceae. It contains about 50 species. The generic name honours German botanical illustrator Georg Dionysius Ehret. Ehretia is becoming very popular as garden plants because they are hardy and drought resistant. Ehretia amoena forms a small tree with a densely branched body. It has olive green leathery leaves with tiny hairs & white to pink sweetly scented flowers which are followed by edible fruit. The species name, amoena means beautiful, showy and pleasing.
