Mount Etna Broom Genista aetnensis or Mount Etna Broom is a large shrub or small tree endemic to the island of Sicily, in Italy. It is a very common constituent of the Mediterranean shrubby vegetation but especially around the lower slopes of Mount Etna. Young plants are typical of brooms but as they age the shrubs develop into small trees with a greenish bark. The terminal branches have a tendency to droop and weep. It is a large deciduous shrub or small tree of evergreen appearance, with slender, arching green shoots and small, sparse leaves.
