Herbertia lahue Seeds
Exotic to Southern Africa
Herbertia is a small genus of herbaceous, perennial and bulbous plants in the Iris family (Iridaceae). They are herbaceous and perennial plants, from tunicate, ovoid bulbs with brown, dry, brittle and papery tunics. The stems are simple or branched. The leaves are few, with the basal ones larger than the others; the blade is pleated, linear-lanceolate. Herbertia lahue is a South African exotic easy-to-grow species. This shortgrass plant with exotic-looking flowers makes a miniature clump of narrow foliage to only 5cm tall. The plants are topped from early to mid-spring with dark blue-lavender flowers composed of three large oblong petals surrounding a contrasting white eye.
