Pelargonium species are evergreen perennials indigenous to temperate and tropical regions of the world, with many species in southern Africa. They are drought and heat tolerant, but can tolerate only minor frosts. Some species are extremely popular garden plants, grown as bedding plants in temperate regions. Pelargonium auritum is a South African indigenous species from the Eastern Cape and Western Cape Provinces. It is a 20cm tuberous perennial with hairy variably shaped leaves. It bears intensely dark purple flowers. The petals have white bases. It flowers from spring to summer.
