Sparaxis metelerkampiae Seeds
South African Endemic Perennial Flowering Bulb
Sparaxis is a genus in the Iridaceae family that is endemic to South Africa and found mostly in the southwestern Cape and the western Karoo. Sparaxis metelerkampiae grows 15-30cm in height. During spring it produces attractive dark purple trumpet shaped flowers. The lower tepals of each flower is marked white. It has 5-7 leaves. Sparaxis is a winter-growing, summer-dormant genus. For this reason, plant the seeds or corms in autumn between late March and early June. Sparaxis is recommended for cultivation in both gardens and containers.
