Watsonia fergusoniae Seeds
South African Endemic Perennial Flowering Bulb
Watsonia is a genus of plants in the Iridaceae family native to South Africa. The genus is named after Sir William Watson, a British botanist. There are 52 species in southern Africa; all are perennial herbs growing from corms and producing erect spikes of showy flowers, and are adapted to a Mediterranean-type climate. Watsonia fergusoniae is a South African endemic species from the Western Cape Province where it can be found growing in Fynbos on shallow pockets of sandy soil between limestone boulders from Agulhas Plain to Gourits River. It grows to 80cm tall with sword-shaped leaves. During summer it bears bright orange-red flowers in long spikes. It is best sown at the start of autumn.
