Tineo, Tenío, Palo Santo
Weinmannia trichosperma is an evergreen tree from Chile with fern-like leaves. It bears spikes of tiny, fragrant creamy - yellow flowers during spring which are followed by red to orange fruits which remain on the tree for a long time after they are ripe. The bark is used for curing wounds, and the wood itself has a very beautiful structure and is extremely hard, so that it is an excellent material for furniture. The flowers of Weinmannia trichosperma are popular with honey bees which are said to produce the best honey from this tree. The bark of this impressive tree also gives it value due to the well-marked structure. It grows to a height of 25 meters, prefers a sunny position with regular irrigation. It is cold hardy to -10°C.
