Wurmbea is a genus is the Colchicaceae family from sub-saharan Africa and Australia. The rootstock is a corm and flowers are star or trumpet-shaped. Wurmbea monopetala is a South African endemic species found in the Western Cape Province. It grows from 5 cm to 25 cm tall with narrow leaves. During spring it bears a lax spike of green to cream flowers with dark margins. The seeds are best sown at the start of autumn.
