Trichocereus peruvianus Seeds

Peruvian Torch Cactus

CUTTINGS AND OTHER QUANTITIES AVAILABLE

These seeds are highly prized amongst serious cacti collectors. The seed stocks of a lot of vendors are contaminated with cross-bred or misidentified species, and people are wasting their money. We are proud to offer these seeds sourced directly from an esteemed part of the Matucana region of Peru. With much variation occurring within the peruvianus species, Icaros DNA seeds are believed to have some of the truest genetics. If you're going to invest the time and money in cultivating your own cacti make sure you get what you're looking for. Trichocereus Peruvianus is one of the most revered trichocereus species. This easy-to-grow, ornamental, columnar cactus, like other species of trichocereus, is tolerant of a wide variety of conditions and can handle more water and fertilization than most cacti. This makes it a good species for beginners. Its rapid growth rate rivals that of pachanoi and it can reach up to 5.5 meters with maturity. It is sometimes used as a grafting stock, although its large spines, which can easily measure 7.5cm to 10cm make it more difficult to work with than San Pedro or Blue Myrtle. Like pachanoi, peruvianus is frost hardy to about -3.5°C and can be raised outdoors all year in Zone 9 or warmer. Otherwise, it should be kept in medium to large pots that can be moved inside during the winter months. Plants can be watered frequently during the summer months. For optimal skin color, T. peruvianus should be kept in partial to full sun and the soil should be well-draining and rich in organic nutrients and minerals. Its blooms that open at night and flower during Chrsitmas in South Africa are large, white and have a strong, pleasant perfume.
