Title: 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) Military Uniform Framed Picture. Height: 32cm. Width: 37cm. Frame: Used Frame with a clear glass. Originally Drawn By: Malcolm Greensmith. Info: The Carabiniers (6th Dragoon Guards) was a cavalry regiment of the British Army. It was formed in 1685 as the Lord Lumley's Regiment of Horse. It was renamed as His Majesty's 1st Regiment of Carabiniers in 1740, the 3rd Regiment of Horse (Carabiniers) in 1756 and the 6th Regiment of Dragoon Guards in 1788. After two centuries of service, including the First World War, the regiment was amalgamated with the 3rd Dragoon Guards (Prince of Wales's) to form the 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards in 1922. The 6th Dragoon Guards were shipped to the Crimean Peninsula in 1854 but saw little action, and thence to India when the Mutiny occurred in 1857. They returned to England in 1861, but shipped back to India in 1877 just prior to the outbreak of the Second Afghan War (1878-80). During the war they were engaged in constant action against the Afghan guerrillas in and around the Khyber Pass. On the outbreak of the Boer War, the Regiment shipped to South Africa where they joined General French's 1st Cavalry Brigade. They fought with distinction at Kimberley (1900) and Bloemfontein (1900) and throughout 1901. Wikipedia & British Cavalry Regiments. Condition: Good, a rescued picture that has been saved and newly covered on the back of the frame. Price: R 250.00 Inc Vat.
