SCUBA DIVING & SNORKELING

FISHING
Big game fishing around the Bazaruto Archipelago is world-renowned. Being on the edge of the deep Mozambique Channel, the Bazaruto Archipelago is Africa's most productive area for black, blue and striped marlin as well as sailfish and warm water game fish such as giant kingfish, Wahoo, king mackerel, dorado and bonito.
MARINE LIFE
The dugongs are the most spectacular of the marine mammals. This mythical mermaid, “the original Sirenia” was supposed to have beckoned women-hungry sailors on to the rocks to their doom.
There are five species of dolphins found in the area and they are often seen following the boats when out fishing or snorkeling. During the summer month's humpback whales can be seen in deeper waters. Different seastars as well as seahorses live in the grassy seabed, and pansy shells are abundant.
BIRD LIFE
The Island are a birdwatcher's paradise with approximately 164 different species having been identified and confirmed on the islands in habitats varying from coastal dunes, open grasslands, fresh water lakes to savannah and acacia woodlands.
