These antique photographs offer a fascinating window on Japanese life in 1904 - at a time when the world watched with amazement as the Japanese navy and army took on Tsarist Russia - and ultimately won the Russo-Japanese War. There are no images of military interest in this particular grouping, however. They merely illustrate the domestic side of Japanese life: how the Japanese people worked, played, and worshiped.

The images can be appreciated even without a special viewer. Each one has a printed caption.
