This work is by a noted South African artist, William Edward Pieters. It is signed Edward 85 on the lower right- hand corner. On the back of the painting is Years Work.W E Pieters The Rape of Youth.

The painting is oil on board, with fiberglass and gesso to provide the heavy texture and relief. It is a large painting, measuring 120 cm by 85 cm and it is unframed.

This dramatic painting of two male nudes with one of them seemingly grasping the heart of the other and pulling it from his chest. Although the title is The Rape of Youth, it may be representative of the OldTestament story from Ezekiel of removing the heart of stone and replacing it with a heart of flesh.

William Edward Pieters is an accomplished South African artist, who may still be living in Scarborough. He had a solo exhibition in Germany entitled History and Infinity. He also painted 12 paintings for the Stations of the Cross at St.Hildegard in 2003 in Viernheim, Germany, in the Weststadt.

This work would create a dramatic impact in any room and a wonderful addition to any art collection.
