This spectacular and beautifully decorated Japanese Satsuma ginger jar with gold gilt is in great condition and measures a decent 13cm high on the stand and roughly 11 cm wide. The vase is fashioned in the very sought after Satsuma style and depicts a traditional "Peacock" scene. The detailing is incredible and the wonderful gold gilt detailing has been beautifully applied. The jar has normal age related crazing. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this magnificent Japanese Satsuma ginger jar and to confirm the condition.
From the internet: "Satsuma ware is a type of Japanese pottery originally from Satsuma Province. Today, it can be divided into two distinct categories: the original plain dark clay early Satsuma made in Satsuma from around 1600, and the elaborately decorated export Satsuma ivory-bodied pieces which began to be produced in the nineteenth century in various Japanese cities. By adapting their gilded poly-chromatic enamel over-glaze designs to appeal to the tastes of western consumers, manufacturers of the latter made Satsuma ware one of the most recognised and profitable export products of the Meiji period."
