Roger Wilmot arrived at the Cape in 1855. This is the second of two diaries, the earlier apparently lost. This second diary records his visit to the Eastern Frontier between the end of the Eighth Frontier (Kaffir) War in 1853 and the tragedy of the Xhosa cattle-killing. Illustrated with Wilmot's own drawings. Wilmot was a keen naturalist, botanist, and observer of whatever he saw.
