Sir John Fleming Leicester ,1st Baron de Tabley ( 1762 1827) was an English landowner, politician, amateur artist, and patron of the arts. Leicester promoted an English school of painting and sculpture. He collected examples of English and Scottish art in a gallery in his London house in Hill Street, Berkeley Square, and from April 1818 onwards the general public could visit his collection. With Colt Hoare and Walter Ramsden Fawkes, the patron of Turner, Leicester contributed to the expansion of patronage to artists in England.
John Young (17551825), mezzotint engraver and keeper of the British Institution, In 1789 he was appointed mezzotint engraver to the Prince of Wales. In 1813 Young succeeded Valentine Green in the keepership of the British Institution, an arduous post which he filled with unfailing tact and efficiency until his death. Between 1821 and 1825, Young published a series of catalogues, illustrated with etchings by himself, of the Grosvenor, Leicester, Miles, Angerstein, and Stafford galleries.
