Above is one of the Asagi varieties.The only book in the English language which considers the total koi pond, including the microscopic life which is so very important to the well-being of the pond and the fishes in it. Most of the mi- croscopic life is shown in magnificent color drawings. Every popu- lar color variety of koi (Japanese colored carp) is illustrated in the book's over one hundred full-color illustrations. Dr. Axelrod was the first Westerner to visit the koi ponds in the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. He wrote the first koi book, too.
