Description: A Cranberry Red double ended Scent Bottle Circa 1860-1900. Ref.JW/5
Maker: Unknown but likely to be English
Date: Estimated date 1860-1900 era
History: Georgian England stank!!  There was no other word for it, sewers, dead animals, rotten garbage, horse manure littered the streets and by the time Victorian England emerged, it was still very smelly although some progress had been made in cleaning up the cities. Perfume and smelling salts were in high demand by the ladies of that era and synthetic scents were already established by the late 1800s. Superb glass, porcelain and even gemstone perfume bottles were the rage with silver for the upper middle class.
Description: The deep cranberry-red double-ended glass scent bottle on offer was popular in that perfume and smelling salts were immediately available to the ladies. These bottles were still hand-blown, two of them attached end-on and then ground and polished with flat prism faces, usually eight or more. Look carefully, and you will see where the bottles were connected.
Condition: Overall in good condition although the openings to the bottle should have a cork at one end and a glass stopper at the other. Both are missing. Both ends have polished brass hinged caps and both are in good condition. Look carefully, and you will note that the one of the caps has been re-cemented back onto the glass opening this end appears to have been slightly damaged during the making of the bottle.
Dimensions:  13.0 cm in length and 2.6 cm in width.

 Price: R1,200.00
