The knives are clearly stamped with A&D S and the hourglass hallmark of Allen & Darwin, Sheffield. Founded in 1887 by Charles James Allen and Sidney Darwin, this historic silversmith partnership flourished until 1927, producing exquisite silver and silver-plated tableware. The forks, due to their smaller size, are unmarkedtypical of such period sets. Based on the companys active years, this piece dates confidently between 1887 and 1927.
This set is in very good antique condition. Some utensils show more use than others, with mellowed bone handles and light plate wear on a few pieces. One fork has a slightly loosened cuff (easily repairable). The box shows some surface wear and a water mark on the lid, but the interior velvet remains intact and plush, with no ripsthough a professional clean wouldnt go amiss. Knives measure approx. 22cm, forks 19cm. Box: 35cm x 25.5cm x 12cm.
