Peter Steyn
Published by D. Philip (1984)
Owls, being highly nocturnal specialised nocturnal predators, perfectly adapted for their life in darkness, are difficult to study, and it requires a special blend of enthusiasm and masochism to sit up through the vast dead and middle of the night photographing and observing them. This classic book, now available in a redesigned edition with an additional chapter, deals with the twelve species of owls found in southern Africa. Delving into their lives has been an adventure for the author, and his especially readable text communicates his enthusiasm for these delightful birds. The photographs, which are a major part of this book, were mostly taken at the nest, and testify to the many hours, spread over fifty years, that Peter Steyn has spent studying owls.
