Dutch illustrator, Henriette Willebeek Le Mair (1889-1966) also known as Saida, was famous for her delicate watercolours often featuring decorative cartouches. Her delightful images have appeared on decorative arts as well as in some children s books, and she appears to have been particularly active between 1911-1917. After her marriage, she and her husband converted to Sufism, dedicating her life to service. Saida s work style and youthful subject matter resulted in favourable comparisons to Kate Greenaway. Here she brings Milne's fantasy stories to life.
A.A.Milne was an English writer best known for his books about Winnie-the-Pooh, as well as .children's poetry. Milne was primarily a playwright before the huge success of Winnie-the-Pooh overshadowed his previous work.
Milne was the father of bookseller Christopher Robin Milne, upon whom the character Christopher Robin is based. It was during a visit to London Zoo, where Christopher became enamoured with the tame and amiable bear Winnipeg, that Milne was inspired to write the story of Winnie-the-Pooh for his son. Milne bequeathed the original manuscripts of the Winnie-the-Pooh stories to the Wren Library at Trinity College, Cambridge, his alma mater.
