Hard cover with jacket, published in 1951 by A.A.M. Stols ยท The Hague, first edition.

The book, 550 copies printed, in landscape format, is in very good condition. Tanning of the end pages. The jacket is in poor condition: Foxing, tears and paper loss at spine ends and on back flap.

B/w aquarelles by Johannes Schumacher from the Swellengrebel-Collection at Breda; 5 plates. Very little is known of the artist. He was of German origin. He was employed as draughtsman by Hendrik Swellengrebel, who undertook three journeys to various parts of the Cape Colony. Thanks to him and Schumacher, we have this visual record.
