James Kantor, a Johannesburg lawyer, regularly defended political detainees and this attracted the interest of the South African Security Police. Ostensibly suspected of aiding treasonable plots, he was arrested under the iniquitous 90-Day Act. He shared the dock with the accused in the Rivonia Trial and intended this book as a tribute to these men, and in particular to Nelson Mandela, a close friend.
