This very rare 1st edition will not be seen in a very long while!

For anyone interested in the history of postage, this is a wonderful book to own.

The book is 274 pages long, plus 40 high quality black and white plates. The last page in the book is slightly discoloured, but otherwise the rest of the book is in very good 2nd hand condition. Please see the images below for the contents pages of the book as well as examples of some of the plates.

Some really fascinating pictures of things such as:

An initial design of a stamp which was submitted and would have been the 1st stamp ever made (but which was ultimately replaced by the Penny Black)
Pictures of the original engraver's proof for the Penny Black, signed off by the designer.
Absolutely fascinating picture of the the first stamp books being stitched by ladies on sewing machines!

The book is cloth bound, with slight wear on the inside front binding, but there are no loose pages and the book has been kept in really good condition.
