Dark blue cloth with St. George and titles over printed in pale blue to the upper panel. 15 full page colour plates, 12 full page black and white illustrations, 5 maps plus maps to end papers. Written in partnership with C. R. L. Fletcher, a fiercely Tory historian; Fletcher contributed most of the historical text, Kipling proffered advice, comment and a number of poems. This is rare in itself, for Kipling was usually most reluctant to work on a volume in tandem with another writer. The artist, Henry Ford, is best known for his work in Andrew Lang's coloured Fairy books. The book has a hint of foxing to page edges and end papers, corners square and pointed,
