I BELIEVE THIS TO BA AN OLD MINIHi dame84,As a collector of vintage & antique lamps I want to help you by correcting your description on this lamp. It is a carbide lamp, unscrew the eyebolt on top of the lamp and swing the handle backwards, then you split the top and bottom sections, the bottom cup is the carbide container and the top container is filled with water. you will notice that the top section has a filler hole and lid as well as a screw regulated dripper. With the carbide cup filled to the mark and the water section filled with the dripper closed the two sections is placed together, swing the handle back and screw the eye bolt in to seal the bottom cup.The lamp is now ready and charged for use and is activated by unscrewing the dripper and the water in combination with the carbide produce the gas witch then pass through nozzle in front of the reflector and is then lit .The correct flame is regulated by the water dripper.Looking at the number on the back it might be a lamp from the Rand Leases gold mineMick
