To say this antique Chinese cloisonne vase is exquisite, is an understatement. The vase measures 21.5cm high x roughly 9.5cm wide. The incredible deep colours in this vase have been accentuated with iridescent mother of pearl and gold-leaf flakes in the enamelling. The art of cloisonné dates back to the 14th century and was a process of applying enamel to either copper, brass or bronze forms. Each individual colour is separated by a very thin layer of silver or brass wire, so that the colours did not smelt into each other. The more colours used, the rarer the piece and more sought after the piece is. Most artists used around nine colours. This vase has far more than nine colours. The vase is Chinese and has a marking/ signature? on the base of the vase. No two pieces are alike. It is very difficult to date the piece, but looking at similar vases, I would guess it dates back to the late 19th century to early 20th century. This is a rare find - don't miss out on this amazing piece. There is absolute minor/ normal age and usage related wear and tear.
