Wow!! This spectacular antique (mid 1800's) English oak Gothic "Buffet-a-Deux Corpus" cabinet is a truly stunning find. The incredible hand carved detailing is totally captivating and a lot of time was spent on hand carving the panels of this amazing large buffet. The "Gargoyle" relief carvings are displayed on either side of the upper stained glass cabinet as well as on the two door panels of the cupboard and the two drawers and the buffet has magnificent floral and scroll carved detailing though-out the buffet. The two drawer handles are incorporated in the gargoyle carving which is a very unusual aspect. The buffet measures a sizeable 1525mm long x 605mm wide x 2150mm high. "buffet-a-deux corpus", literally means a buffet in two bodies, it can incorporate many variations, but always one piece is set upon a slightly larger piece (thus two bodies!). The buffet mirror has some age wear and tear, and could be replaced. Gothic furniture is stunning and be it either European or English Gothic, they are superbly striking pieces. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this truly spectacular buffet cabinet and to confirm the condition.
