Description: A master collection of three (3) matching mid-century South African art pottery statement vessels by the iconic Lucia Ware (Boksburg East Potteries).
This premium curated trio represents the absolute height of local 1950s/1960s monochrome chic, featuring three distinct sculptural silhouettes finished in the exact same glaze finish.
All three collector pieces showcase Lucia Wares legendary, ultra-glossy jet-black enamel glaze, boasting brilliant, mirror-like reflective properties. The matching 3-piece set includes:
1. The 'Pillar Flute' Pedestal Tazza: A magnificent, heavy boat-shaped centrepiece bowl featuring deep vertical exterior fluted ribbing, a wavy scalloped rim, and a thick circular pedestal foot.
2. The 'Gondola' Mantel Urn: An aerodynamic, sweeping boat-shaped posy vase flanked by oversized, dramatic stylized scroll handles.
3. The 'Pumpkin' Console Trough (Shape 1320): A low-profile oblong structural planter featuring deep, bulbous vertical fluted lobes and a scalloped upper rim.
Hand-crafted at the historic Boksburg East Potteries (BEP) kilns in Gauteng, South Africa. Lucia Ware is celebrated as one of the most culturally nostalgic domestic ceramic brands of the mid-20th century.
Authentication Note: While only one piece retains its crisp factory marking, all three vessels are verified authentic Lucia Ware based on their identical clay compound, distinct foot rings, and matching specialty high-gloss black glaze recipe. The other two pieces originally used paper or foil stickers that naturally wore away with vintage handling over time.
Finding a matching three-piece monochrome black set intact from the same estate is an exceptional rarity. These glossy black series were produced in limited quantities to cater to the ultra-modern, high-end upscale interior decorators of the late 1950s and 1960s.
This collection is an absolute dream for shelf-styling and mantel curators. Group the three pieces together asymmetrically across a mid-century teak room divider or side table to let the deep flutes, curves, and glossy surfaces capture dramatic lighting reflections.
Original Intended Use: Premium formal dining room centrepieces, mantelpiece floral displays, and low-profile succulent arrangement troughs.
Alternate Suggested Use: A high-end cohesive "Goth Core" or monochrome luxury styling collection, vanity accents, or striking visual anchors for a modern minimalist apartment.
Made in Boksburg East, South Africa. Circa 1950s-1960s.
Condition: Beautiful vintage condition across the collection. The reflective glaze coatings are incredibly bright, slick, and beautifully preserved. All three interior cavities are clean and sound.
Visible Flaws: Minor age-related wear. **Please ask for more photos if you want to see more** I photographed them individually.
No structural cracks, hairline stress fractures, or restorations. The 'Gondola' mantel vase and 'Pumpkin' console planter are completely flawless.
The 'Pillar Flute' pedestal centrepiece bowl features a single, very small cosmetic fleck chip on the upper edge tip of one of the fluted rim waves (clearly pictured). This is a minor glaze flake typical for vintage earthenware and does not compromise the structure; it can easily be turned to the back for display. Light, expected shelf-friction wear along the unglazed base foot rings from decades of shelf contact.
