SIGNED, INSCRIBED & DATED BY THE POET, Deep South Books, 2019, softcover, 78 pages, condition: very good.l

In simple vocabulary a naked bone describes complex states of beauty and suffering, often at the borderline where life meets death. In their dreamlike rhythms and images, the poems draw strength from Xhosa culture, Christianity, and elements of nature. They are love poems in the widest sense, embracing the interface between daily life and the spiritual, enacting joy and caring in the face of deprivation and mourning.

Mangaliso Buzani was born in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth in 1978. A finalist of DARLO Award in 2014 and 2015 with Inside the River the poem which is the title of his English thesis collection and Naked bone an extract from the thesis as well. He did editing and translations both in English and IsiXhosa for students at Rhodes University Enviromental Centre.

Mangaliso is a published writer of Ndisabhala Imibongo a collection of poetry he did for his thesis at Rhodes University. He has published poems in these magazines: New Coin, Ityhini, Carapace and Kotaz; and was invited to read in these events: Mandela Bay Book Fair, Eastern Cape Book Festival and The WordFest of Grahamstown Arts Festival. He has been involved in community work, giving Siyafunda Workshops at local schools together with Imbizo Arts of South Africa.
