After studying Tropical Medicine in London, Carpenter was asked to 'undertake an investigation into the bionomics of the Tse-tse fly in Uganda' in the hope of better understanding (and eventually curing/preventing) the disease of sleeping sickness. Carried out on behalf of the Tropical Diseases Committee of the Royal Society, Carpenter thus engaged in a period of research which started in February 1911 and ended in August 1914. His experience of studying the Tse-tse fly and the other animals and insects living on Lake Victoria is encapsulated in this wonderfully illustrated volume.

Hardcover. English. E. P. Dutton, New York. 1920 First Edition. xxiv, 333 pp, 87 illustrations including full-page, 2 color plates of butterflies, each with tissue guard and letterpress, tables, folding charts, large folding map.
