BORSKE SKLO (NOVY BOR) : AN AFFORDABLE OPPORTUNITY TO OWN AN ITEM FROM THE 1960s DESIGNED BY A FAMOUS DESIGNER!
A Bor glassworks mould blown and hotworked vase, design no. 87165, designed by Pavel Hlava. Shown in the November 1968 issue of Czechoslovak Glass Review, these vases were produced in a number of colours, sometimes being cased in colourless glass.
Although described as being 'hand sculptured', it is likely that the glass was blown into a modified wire 'cage' mould to give the moulded distorted columns, which may then have been refined and finished by hand.
The production method moves studio glass techniques into the realms of mass production and focusses on the optical properties of hot-worked glass, as well as continuing the trend for affordable, hand formed art glass.
