THE ASTROLOGER: The Astrologer - Studying the Sky with his Dragon. The wizard astrologer sits in his chair on top of a tree growth with his dragon curled around the tree stump underneath. Near the base of the tree is three chrystals - one large and two smaller ones. These are genuine chrystals and glister in the light changing colours depending on your angle of view. The Wizard has a few books with him. One is opened and if you look closely you will notice a pentagram and some moon phases inscribed in it.

James Ascough is one of the famous designers of the Myth and Magic fantacy range of pewter statues first for Tudor Mint and later on for Xystos in the UK.

TUDOR MINT BECOMES XYSTOS: Myth & Magic collectables and Myth & Magic figurines were originally produced by The Tudor Mint. The initial collection of 12 figures first appeared in 1989 and were an instant success with shops and collectors. Originally based in Shirley, Solihull, it was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Watson Group Ltd. until 2007, when the brand was sold to the Xystos group. Following the transfer of ownership, many of the ranges were retired, but the Myth and Magic range is still being marketed. Xystos went into administration in September 2013 so the current position of the range is uncertain.

HEAVY PEWTER THAT IS SILVER PLATED: 
The use of pewter dates back at least 2,000 years to Roman times. Ancient pewter contained about 70 percent tin and 30 percent lead. Such pewter, also called black metal, darkened greatly with age, and the lead readily leached out in contact with acidic foods.
Modern pewter is about 91 percent tin, 7.5 percent antimony, and 1.5 percent copper; the absence of lead makes it safe to use for dishes and drinking vessels. The surface of modern pewter is bluish white with either a crisp, bright finish or a soft, satin sheen.
THE BASE METAL BASED ON THE HEAVY (2,6KG) FEEL TO THE STATUE I SUSPECT HAS SOME LEAD IN IT. THE MYTH AND MAGIC DRAGON RANGE IS USUALLY FINISHED WITH SILVER PLATING WHICH PRODUCES ADARK GOTHIC EFFECT, AND IS EMBELLISHED WITH GENUINE CRYSTALS.
