This is a lovely pair of exquisite original watercolours. One has the remnant of a signature which is sadly now illegible. But to my eyes a T G and N are discernable. See the photograph included in this listing. Therefore, Possibly Thomas Girtin.
One is of the overgrown ruins of an Abbey in England or Scotland. Candidates include Holyrood, Tintern Abbey, or Rievaulx Abbey.
The other is of a forest road with a male and female peasant figures. The style of dress is 18th century, which dates these two original works to late eighteenth century or c. 1800.
Extremely well painted, most probably by a professional artist. Size and style indicate Thomas Girtin or his school.
Image sizes are 19 cm x 13 cm, each . Frames are 20 cm x 25cm, each.
Further research may reveal the artist with certainty. Excellent rand hedge investment.
