This exceptionally rare antique (c1868 to 1870) Rosewood Harmonium by H. Christophe & Etienne of Paris, France is one of only a hand full of these incredible reed organs still in existence, with many now only found in museums and private collections. The harmonium is a free-reed instrument patented by Debain of Paris in 1848 and resembles a small organ with foot-operated compression bellows and controlled by a keyboard. The case is made of Rosewood with Ivory & Ebony wood keys. The Harmonium measures roughly 85cm long x 36cm wide x 78cm high. The harmonium is not working and I suspect that the bellows would need to be repaired or replaced and it would definitely need to be serviced. There is age and usage related wear and tear associated with an almost 150 year old organ, but it is still a beautifully made piece that has endured time. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this remarkable and super-rare harmonium and to confirm the condition.
