Presented by The Victoria League, Macmillan & Co, 1898,  three volumes, .leather decorative bindings, 19 cms x 25 cms x 5.2 cms , condition: very good.

John Richard Green's seminal illustrated history of the English people, featuring numerous coloured maps, complete in three volumes, in uniform full leather decorative bindings.

A popular history of the English people by John Richard Green, originally published in 1874 to tell the history 'not of English Kings and conquests, but of the English People.' Battles that the author felt did not play a big role in the history of the country were not included.

Uniform full calf bindings with titles in gilt to morocco spine labels, gilt tooling to spine, cloth covered boards, marbled edges and endpapers. In excellent condition.

The Victoria League (1901present) is a voluntary charitable organisation that connects people from Commonwealth countries. Membership to the Victoria League was open to both men and women but the first Committee was composed solely of women who framed a Constitution and enrolled the first General Council.

The League's first act was the establishment of a fund in 1901 to help the displaced Afrikaner families during the Boer War.
