Diary of a soldier written during the heat of battle in the northern Cape during the Anglo-Boer War, together with contemporary illustrations.
Three years experiences of a cavalryman with the 9th Lancers during the Boer War. Abadie arrived in South Africa the day before war broke out. Abadie was a lieutenant in the 9th Lancers and saw action at the battles of Belmont, Graspan and Modder River. He was present at Magersfontein and involved in the events that led to the Relief of Kimberley and the fall of Bloemfontein. From mid-1900 to the end of the war, he served on the staff of Major-General French.
