This spectacular large (64.5cm) Demetre Chiparus bronze "Goddess Britannia" revival mantle clock is in superb condition and has the original key. The mantle clock measures a magnificent 64.5cm tall x 46cm long x 20cm wide. This superb sculpture is a replica of the original Demetre Chiparus sculpture produced in the 1940's. The mechanical clock chimes on the hour. Britannia was a tutelary goddess; A Romano-Celtic goddess who was often associated with the Roman goddess Minerva (Athena). During the reign of Claudius Caesar, the Romans conquered Britain in AD 43, they named the new province after the goddess, Britannia. The base plate is black granite. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this spectacular mantle clock and to confirm the condition.
