THIS SPECTACULARLY RARE ANTIQUE (1854) "ORANJE VRIJ STAATSE" VERJAARSDAG SKILD IS MOUNTED ON A WOODEN SHIELD AND WAS ESSENTIALLY A BADGE COMMEMORATING THE BIRTHDAY OF THE INDEPENDENT BOER SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC AND IS DATED 23 FEBRUARIE 1854 (DUTCH/ AFRIKAANS SPELLING). THE BADGE HAS THE ORANJE VRIJ STAAT COAT OF ARMS ON IT. I COULD NOT FIND OUT MUCH ABOUT THE BADGE, BUT WE DISCOVERED IT IN A MID 1800's AMMUNITION BOX (WHICH I WILL BE LISTING TODAY) WITH OTHER BADGES. THE BADGE IS 3.9cm ACROSS AND THE SHIELD IS 7.5cm x 9cm TALL.
