A self-taught painter of figures , portraits , genre , still life and wildlife . Works in oil , watercolor , ink , pencil and charcoal .
Profile : From 1946 a member of the SAAA . In 1942 a propaganda artist for the British ministry on information in Singapore . Reproductions of many of his paintings have been immensely popular . Has lived in Russia , Manchuria , China , Malaya , the UK , the USA and Canada . 1978 - 81 the subject of three documentary films made by the BBC , the SABC and Eurovision .
Exhibitions : 1933 Shanghai , China , first of 52 solo exhibitions held in Asia , SA , the UK , the USA and Canada .
