This stunning and rare large antique (pre-mid century) rectangular Sarreguemines Faience of France Obernai pattern porcelain platter is an incredible find and is in remarkably good condition. The platter measures a very decent 38.5cm long x 30.5cm wide. There are no visible chips or cracks in the platter and there is minimal crazing etc. The pattern depicts artwork by H Loux and is of dancing villages and the platter has bouquets of flowers around the edges.
From the internet: The Sarreguemines Faience factory was started in the Lorraine region of France in 1790 by three tobacco merchants. In 1800, the factory was acquired by Paul Utzschneider, who along with Alexandre de Geiger, developed the pottery into a formidable business. By the 1900's Sarreguemines had developed into one of the largest potteries in Europe. During World War II, the company was sold to Villeroy & Boch of Mettlach and finally closed its doors in 1983.
