This stunning antique German silver plated (on brass) three decanter Tantalus with its original key is an extremely rare find and a beautiful example of the turn of the century silverware produced by Wrttembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF). The tantalus is 38.5cm long x 15cm wide x 35.5cm high and can accommodate three square crustal liquor decanters measuring up to 9.3cm x 9.3cm x 26cm high. The WMF & I/O mark was used between 1880 and 1918, giving us a great indication as to the age of this wonderful tantalus. The tantalus has amazing weight to it and has some age and usage related wear and tear; more so on the tarnishing side, but the exposed brass base metal in areas give this amazing tantalus its appeal. The key is still with the tantalus and the "tilting" locking mechanism is still working beautifully.
