The paintings of Petra van Niekerk are known for their vibrant, joyful colours depicting the simple pleasures of ordinary South Africans at work and at play. Although believing in diversity in art, she tends to have a few favourite topics, eg. “Street scenes, farms, children, donkeys, little coastal dwellings” etc. She started out in oils, but enjoys using acrylics / mixed media, capturing the essence of a place or scene and adding her own interpretation. Many paintings has been sold in South Africa, a few have “emigrated” and been sold abroad.
