This is a real gem of a Stanley No 71. It was made in the early 1890's and was probably only about the 2nd or 3rd version of this plane. What adds particular value is the excellent condition.
Dating the plane can be done by reference to The Superior Works: Patrick's Blood and Gore. It was only in the mid-1890's according to him that Stanley introduced the Shoe (or depth stop) to allow closing of the opening, and in 1902, they added the vernier adjustment screw mechanism to allow for precise vertical adjustment of the cutter.
Condition of the item is indicated via the photos.
Note to overseas buyers: Price excludes overseas postage. I am prepared to quote for postage costs, and insurance if required, which will be at cost.
