This truly magnificent antique solid oak Dutch Kussing Kas with incredible carved detailing and drawers is an amazing find and an extremely rare piece of furniture. A Kussing Kas loosely translated is a linen cupboard or Armoire which has its roots as far back as the 1600's and served as a gift to brides to be to store their wedding dress and collectables. Solid woods were used and different methods of decoration were often used to either keep it a plain unassuming Kas or make it very ornate. This heavy piece of furniture is probably one of the most valuable Armoires in Dutch furniture and can be used throughout generations as an heirloom piece. They are also referred to as "Dowry Cabinets". The Kas measures a very decent 175cm long x 64cm wide x 184cm high. The Kas rests on the original substantial "onion" feet and the Kas is in lovely antique condition. We suspect this Kas dates to between 1780 and 1820 after which the cabinets became much smaller and plainer. The double door kas has two inside drawers for valuables and two drawers below the doors. Please view the pics carefully to fully appreciate this incredible antique solid oak Dutch Kas and to confirm the condition.
