This beautiful and very rare antique Art Deco green Vaseline/ Uranium glass bowl with gorgeous detailing is a wonderful find and not much of this Uranium glass is still in circulation. Uranium glass was invented in the late 1800's and became an integral part of the Art Deco art glass movement in the 1920's to 1940's. Often referred to as Mercury glass (which it is not), Uranium glass has minute quantities of Uranium and metal oxides in the glass and were produced in yellow, blue, green and the extremely rare red glass variations. The only way to absolutely confirm that it is Uranium glass is to shine a UV light (black light) onto the glass which makes it glow in the dark (see pics). This stunning glass bowl measures 27cm long (handle to handle) x 23cm wide x 8.9cm high. There are a few chips on the base of the bowl as shown in the pics, but they are not visible from above.
