in 1867 Thomas Brannam's son Charles Hubert Brannam left school at the age of 12 and started making pottery ....he started the sgraffito work (( scratching in a covering of " slip " on textured ground to show the clay beneath...William Baron of Barnstaple also made pieces at the potteries....
