A Victorian Son by Stuart Cloete
An Autobiography 1897 1922. Stuart Cloete, a South African novelist, born in Paris, had a strong sense of his Boer heritage. The book covers his Paris childhood, full of loving nostalgia, and includes details of his WWI experiences with the Yorkshire Light Infantry and the cold stream Guards. He went into the army straight from school and was one of the youngest commissioned officers in the war. He was wounded twice, the second time very seriously.
