A6M Zero
Up for bid is a Hat Trick Enterprises (www.hattrickrc.com) A6M Zero 2548 combat kit, partially completed. The kit was originally designed for 2548 scale combat (unmodified .25 cu.in. engine and scaled WWII fighter to a 48" wingspan). I bought two of these kits and built the first as a PSS (Powered Slope Scale) glider. All up weight came out to be 2.9lbs or 1.3kgs which makes it fairly high wingloading and needs a good 30+km/h wind to keep it up. Build this kit to suite your wants. Takes a .20-.30 nitro engine or go electric if you like!
This is a partially compled kit. Mostly finishing work remains. The spars (fiberglass rod) on the wing top, bottom, and leading edge have been installed with polyurathane glue (gorilla glue); wing halves are joined (with fiberglass rod spar carry-through); balsa trailing edges are installed and shaped; fuselage right and left quarters are joined and fiberglass rod stringers are added.
Major steps remaining: 1. Join fuselage halves and add tail feathers. 2. Install radio gear and ailerons. 3. Add covering (I covered with water-based polyurathane floor sealant and newspaper - monocote/etc, ripstop nynol, or just plain colored tape would do the trick. If you are up to glassing, that would work too.)
Kit comes with (at various stages of completion):
CNC cut foam wing and fuselage.
Fiberglass rods for reinforcement of fuselage and wing spars and leading edge.
Plywood firewall, hold down reinforcements, trailing and leading edge reinforcements
Vaccuformed canopy
Coroplast tailfeathers
Reinforcement cloth for servo rails
All balsa required. trailing edge sticks and ailerons
What you will need:
6 oz Sullivan rectangle tank (or similar, if building gas powered)
foam safe CA or epoxy
Pro-bond or Gorilla glue polyurethane glue.
covering material (manufacturer recommends ripstop nylon)
foam safe paint. regular house latex paint works great.
basic hobby tools including 2 small levels.
Pushrods and control horns
Radio gear (tx, rx, 2 or 3 mini servos, 4.8/6v battery)
motor mount, engine, and cowl (since mine is a glider, I made the cowling out of foam block - will include a foam chunk if you like)
Check my other auctions - I'll be posting a used .25 engine that would make a good match for a nitro sport flyer.
Kit sells for $55USD (about R400).
