ABO Medal to Burger H S Prinsloo who served in the Middelburg Commando

Hendrik Prinsloo only joined on 1 April 1900, possibly when he turned 16. He was in action at Bakenlaagte (30 October 1901 where Col Benson was killed) and on 1 April 1902 at Verkluimkop/Boschmanskop (some 30km south-east of Springs) when some 300 Queen’s Bays and 40 National Scouts attempted a night raid on the commandos of Generals Viljoen and Alberts.

They successfully passed the pickets and surprised the Boers. However the Boers recovered quickly and about 100 successfully launched a mounted counter-charge, firing from the saddle and routing the Tommies.
